In September, South Africans commemorated Heritage Day in honour of our country's unique diversity and rich cultural heritage. We find this rainbow of diversity in our special home and childrens’ mixed cultures, namely Xhosa, Pedi, Zulu, Afrikaans, Tswana, Sotho, Ndebele, Venda, Tsonga, and Shangaan. Fortunately, some of our children have been blessed by adoptions and have found their “forever families” in the Netherlands; Denmark; Sweden; Norway; USA; Luxembourg; Finland and South Africa. We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and give thanks to all of our volunteers and supporters all around the world who are now a part of our own Hearts of Hope heritage. Without your love for our children, donations and support, our existence would not be possible!
Good News - Forever Families & Welcome New Children We have been blessed with 7 adoptions and reunifications with family this year and are thrilled for our babies and children that have found their forever families. This means we have also welcomed 7 new babies and children into our care. We welcome you into our loving family and are grateful for the opportunity to give you back your childhood. This brings the total of children who we have been able to care for, with your support, to 121.
The Harsh Reality: "My granny threw me and my sister away" Poverty and its impact on society continue to be a contributor as to why children are placed in a children’s home, including ours. This year we have had the most difficult cases in our history. The sad truth behind where our new children come from.
Staff Spotlight on Mama Thandi Hailing from Swaziland and Mpumulanga, we introduce the patient and loving Mama Thandi, who is our full time House Mother for the “Masingita” House. (“Masingita” means “Miracles” in Tsonga.) Mama Thandi looks after 7 of our wonderful children and has a heritage mix of Swazi and Zulu. Mama Thandi is a qualified caregiver with First Aid Training. At age 52, she does not look her age and says that her secret to staying young is to love your work! Read more about Mama Thandi
Good News - Home Improvements
Due to valuable contributions from our sponsors and donations, we are proud to report on 2 new home improvements. We have new playground equipment for our 3 years olds, and a new swing and "beach" play area for our babies up to 9 months. Next, we are raising funds to build a new classroom. How we turned a concrete alley into a beautiful space for fun and stimulation?
