DRAKENSBERG SCHOOLS – OUR HERITAGE
577 children are educated in Drakensberg schools through our support in the form of teacher training, resources and daily meals.
We believe that the only way to make a real contribution to our community is through education. Together with donations and assistance from other resorts, guests, friends and businesses, we hope to give the local children a sound foundation for future learning.
We support 10 schools in the Amazizi Village by providing porridge for each child daily, organising teacher training and workshops, and by purchasing educational equipment and games. We have also helped with ongoing maintenance of school facilities.
Providing children with an excellent foundation helps them gain access to good secondary schools in KwaZulu Natal and thus gives them a chance to excel in life. Hopefully, they will then be able and willing to give back in some way to the community, in which they grew up.

175 Children in Alexandra Township
In the heart of Alexandra is St Martins Pre-School and St Theresa’s Creche, owned by St Huberts Catholic Church, which caters for children from all backgrounds (those with parents and homeless children without parents). Currently there are 168 children who attend the school. The government has recently given them a building to use as a classroom; unfortunately this building needs lots of care and attention as well as proper facilities and equipment. The support provided to St Martin’s includes:
- Maintenance and refurbishment when required
- Educational toys and games
